For the last two hours I communicated with three native speakers of American Sign Language. I understood about 90% of the conversation and passively accepted the other 10% with head nods. No one asked me if I was hearing-- they didn't have to ask. I told them with my broken signs and poor production. But they maintained a natural pace. I guess my body language, facial expressions, and ASL features told them I was a little more than hearing.
